George Cairns writes a monthly tutorial column on using Capture NX-D in the 100% Nikon magazine, N-Photo. Nikons Capture NX2 is a powerful tool for tweaking images and scans in ways that are meant to maintain the original image-not make into something it never was (like Photoshop, say).
It comes bundled with a new version of Nikon Transfer 2 whose sole change is to add support for NX Studio itself. NX Studio replaces ViewNX-i if already installed, but can run alongside Capture NX-D, allowing you to try both in parallel should you want to.

When we searched for an update from within Capture NX-D’s Check for Updates menu we didn’t see a link to get version 1.5.0, however you can download a Mac or PC version from the Nikon Download Centre. The Camera and Lens Corrections panel also has a new Diffraction compensation box to tick, which will help reduce diffraction related blurring in shots snapped with a small aperture. It also adds support for Nikon D3500DSLR and the Nikon Coolpix P1000superzoom bridge camera. Nikon View NX is a FREE download that offers basic RAW editing, (effectively a very stripped down Capture NX2) which may meet you need, and is a pretty good RAW browser too.
Simply place the Control Point on the area that you want to edit and U Point Technology will analyze color elements such as hue, saturation and brightness, as well as recognize similar areas where an edit would best be. Color Control Points enable you to selectively adjust properties such as Hue for creative results.Īs well as Color Control Points the latest version of Capture NX-D features the latest Picture Control for the Nikon Z7, so you can quickly tweak that camera’s colors and tones in post-production. Capture NX 2 easy-to-use software lets you make intuitive photo enhancements which are immediately visible on your monitor.
